16.4.12

I waited patiently for the LORD to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the LORD. (Psalm 40:1-3 NLT)

So much is going on in our life...this scripture is helping me out

Julep Shania, Funky Fingers 220 Volts , Sinful Colors Nail Art
My second time doing free hand with the striping brush
This design was birthed out of not liking how Shania looked on my fingers by itself
Originally I had a basic manicure in mind.
Overall I only really like 3 things out of my Julep mystery box
I like Stefani, crystal nail file, and facial for hands.
The other two colors probably will never wear alone again
And the lotion doesn't do anything for me

write the visions

Habakkuk 2: 2-3 NLT
Then the Lord said to me, "Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

One of my favorite verses today I read the New Living Translation version. I like it
Yesterday I went to a Martin Luther King Jr Memorial service and the choir sang a song I never heard that was birthed from this verse. Beautiful song...

6.1.12

small step: Devour the Word daily

Come Drink Live 365

Today's readings:
Genesis13-15
Matthew 5

Thoughts
God promised Abraham great things. Abraham made some mistakes along the way but he was faithful. It makes me think it's not about perfection but pursuit. We still aim or pursue perfection. But when we do fall short don't allow that to be our undoing. Mistakes are just a good opportunity to repent and reevaluate. Abraham believed God had blessed him but he still desired offspring. I can identify with that aspect of Abraham. I think the life we have is wonderful and more than I could have imagined but I still desperately desire to have children. But I know that God is real and His word is true and that door will open.
Today I had a great day
It had some rough parts
One of my least favorite things about my job is calling DCFS
Today was one of those
I cannot go into details of the story to protect the innocent and the guilty
But It wasn't good
But I am thankful that the child spoke up
I am thankful that the parent's believed the child
And I am thankful that no one ever had to call DCFS on my behalf
Families are interesting animals
I am thankful that I was blessed with the loving kind
I am also blessed that my parents prayed for me

3.1.12

small step: devour the word daily

Come Drink Live 365
Today's readings:
Genesis 4-6
Matthew 2

Thoughts
These readings made me think of influence and responding to the Spirit of God
Cain, Noah, and the Wise Men all received a word from the Lord

Cain did not obviously heed the word. Gen. 4: 7~ If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.
God challenged Cain to do better but instead he harbored sin and ended up killing his brother. But the story doesn't end there. The Bible goes on to say that Cain's family was challenged with anger and violence because of the choices he made.

Noah was a righteous man. God wanted to destroy the earth but didn't because of Noah. Noah was also able to save his wife, his sons, and their wives. Imagine if Noah had been like Cain...the earth would have been destroyed. But Noah through his pursuit of God and leadership gave his family an opportunity to know God.

The Wise Men followed the star to find Jesus and unsuspectingly gave pertinent information to King Herod. It was his desire to kill Jesus. But they were warned in a dream to not return to Herod and give him the exact location of the Christ Child. If the Wise Men had ignored the warning who only knows what could have happened.

The point is heed the word.
The word is presented in written form (the Bible), preached form, prophetic form (dreams, visions, prophecy).
All we can see is what is behind us and what is in our view at this very moment.
God sees all through our generational line.
The choices we make today have consequences positive or negative
I want a positive legacy

random ramblings

Updates
Today is day 8 of working out
I did a cardio interval workout Monday and kickboxing today
I am still deciding about joining the gym
I had been going to La Fitness
But I am looking into the park district as well

I washed my hair today as well still using Giovanni Smooth as Silk
I used Taliah Waajid Detangler for the first time it seemed to work well
Time will tell I plan to use the curl keeper when I style later on
I can see more growth
I was watching some youtube videos earlier today
I saw some cute cuts that tempted me a bit
But at the same time I expereinced a lot of growth this year
So I would like to see how 2012 could go with the understanding I have now
The longest portion of my hair is about 1/2 inch from bra strap length
I'll probably measure for real so I can actually compare in the spring and summer

birds

It's very brisk outside
That's the funny thing about Illinois winters
It's like they don't really begin until January
And since January 1 on it's been very cold
Today's temp 24
We have a pond behind the house
There are about 300 geese on it right now
And it appears to be frozen in most places
I saw two or three of them walking across the ice
I guess these guys missed the memo about flying south
Birds don't hibernate as far as I know
So I imagine that it is a difficult time
If the water's frozen I'm sure the ground is
That means little to no insects available
The grass is all brown
The circumstances seem less than desirable
But it's a large group so if there's a way
I'm sure they'll find it
I tried to get a picture but the screen door is frozen shut
But it's a beautiful scene
It reminds me of life
When we are difficult or barren times
How do we handle it?
Do we flee in an attempt to find better results?
Do we stick it out?
Do we surround ourselves with like minded people?
Do we panic or praise?
Are we prayerful or resentful?
Sometimes the situations that seem like mistakes are actually part of His plan
There are seasons spiritually and naturally so winter will come and go
I plan to cling to His word in every season

2.1.12

small step: devour the word daily

My 2012 Bible reading plan
Read the whole Bible this year

Come Drink Live 365
Today's readings:
Genesis 1-3
Matthew 1

Thoughts
Today's readings focus on beginnings
The beginning of everything and the beginning of Christ's ministry on earth
But the thought that resonated with me most was all the behind the scenes work
The days of preparation that God did before creating man
The thought that God put into what was needed all living creatures to survive, thrive, and procreate
The thought that God put into creating Adam and Eve
The thought that God put into creating me and you.

Psalm 139: 13-18 NLT
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous -- how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day passed. How precious are you thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I cannot even count them; they outnumber the gains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

And Matthew 1 illustrates that same points in a different way.
The lineage of Jesus shows that same thought level.
Instrumental men such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Boaz, David, Solomon and on and on
It even lists pivotal women like Rahab and Ruth
God was with me even before there was a me.
I am so thankful
I think it's fitting on the first day of the year to meditate on that
God knows what is ahead in the next moment, next day, next month, and so on
Who better to put my trust in?

Happy New Year

It's 2012!
I have now been "officially" blogging for a year
I put officially in quotations because technically it's a little longer but technically I'm not very consistent.
But that's going to change this year
Over the course of 2011 I had about four consistent areas that I featured
Word, Hair, Nails, and Fitness
Obviously some areas received more coverage
But I intend to do better this year
The best plan of attack is to make list and hold yourself accountable
So in the Word area I plan to read the whole Bible this year
I found a plan called Come Drink Live 365 through YouVersion on my IPad
This plan has you read three Old Testament Chapters and one New Testament 6 days a week with one day for catch up. I plan to list the chapters I read as well as thoughts daily. Also connected with the word area is prayer. I plan to pray before or after the readings and to keep track of my prayer lists in order to highlight answered prayers.
In the Hair area I plan to take more  style pictures and share interesting posts from hair blogs.
In the Nails area I plan to take photos of manicures and share new polishes
In the Fitness area I plan to update on workout status and weight. This area kinda overlaps with health and diet as well. I am thinking about doing a food diary (just not 100% sure yet).
Here's to 2012
